Just put it down, right!?
Nah. A bit more complicated than that.
Best thing I was ever told on how to set the bar down after you do a deadlift, is to do a Romanian deadlift, then drop the bar once it gets to your knees.
In other words, once you're at the top of your deadlift, break at the hips and stick your rear end back behind you. Let the barbell slide down the top of your legs as you continue sticking your backside further back. Try keeping your knees from travelling forward until the bar reaches your knees.
Once the bar reaches your knees, let the bar hit the floor while you still hold onto the bar. You are basically doing a controlled drop. Let gravity take the weight down. Don't fight the weight - it can be dangerous. You can let your knees bend forward a little bit as you get the barbell down to the floor.
Make sense? NO?!
Fine. Here... just watch Alan Thrall demonstrate it.
