Training and nutrition advice
Are you getting the results you want in the gym? Yes, you are? THEN DON'T READ THIS!!! GET OUTTA HERE!!!!
Oh, YOU are NOT getting results? Uh oh... are you focused on what you're trying to do? Chances are, you are not focusing on one thing, or even the correct thing to do. Perhaps you even have an unclear, or uncertain goal.
Most new people don't even know what they're trying to do. There are no goals other than just doing gym type things. A loose goal may be to get healthy, or get into better shape, but too many people aimlessly go from exercise to exercise without any real focus on what to do to reach better physical fitness. Therefore, nothing really changes!
Another common thing is when people try to build muscle, lose a bunch of fat to get "shredded", and become as strong as the Hulk all at once. While you CAN do some of those at the same time, you may not see the progress you want. Why? Because you're trying to do too much at once.
If you want to get "shredded" and super lean, focus on that.
If you want to build strength, focus on that.
If you want to build muscle, focus on that.
Can you have a routine that revolves around those 3 things? Sure! That's what periodization is all about - focusing one thing for a given time frame, then moving on to the next thing for a given time period, etc.
Steve Shaw (The Big Hairy Ugly Dude) has some good strong opinions on this matter. Check out what he has to say!
