Training and nutrition advice
I fucking hate The Biggest Loser. HATE IT!!!
That show promotes extremely unhealthy methods of fat loss. Those "contestants" are pushed to limits they are NOT ready for. Most people, healthy people, shouldn't even do the crazy ass amount of work Biggest Loser contestants do.
Plenty of people who participated on the show, even winners, get fat again after the show is done. Here are some links to back this up:
So, what gives? Good chance you didn't read those articles yet, and that's fine. That's why this was written!
The Biggest Loser never taught these people HOW to live a healthier life style. They just had their calories/food significantly restricted and had to do insane amounts of exercise day in, day out.
The crazy amount of calories cut just destroyed their metabolism. This is why it is SO IMPORTANT to make sure you eat enough when trying to lose fat. You HAVE TO EAT in order to lose weight! Starving yourself is NEVER the answer.
One of the best, and arguably the most important thing to do in order to minimize fat (besides what you eat), is to...
These contestants were NOT taught how to build muscle. Some of them may have gained some muscle. But, working out seven days a week, starving yourself, and doing crazy ass amounts of cardio is not the way to build muscle.
The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn at rest, which means the higher your metabolism is, which means you have a greater chance of not being overweight.
In fact, I would even go so far as to say that if you had to pick just ONE thing - cardio vs weight training - pick the weight training. Because, you will most likely lose muscle when dieting down if you don't do resistance training, and just do cardio.
Look, I could go on and on about this stuff. I'm grateful to see this show getting called out all over the place now.
Here's a video I highly recommend watching that helps further expose the atrocities that is The Biggest Loser:
